Being recently given the gift of time [euphemistically speaking...] and the opportunity [ditto] to revisit my career so far, I go back [more years than it's prudent to reveal] to a professional experience that experts in resume building and outplacement say is "unmentionable". But this very fall marks an anniversary of sorts and, oblivious to their sound advice, I'll go there, because while technologies come and go, human "typologies" are here to stay. So these many years later, I resurrect this older article of mine about good people managers [to you, Jeff!] and bad ones [names forsaken].

Forget the legions of benigne blunders in the "its/it's", "their/there", "principle/principal" class. Look at these possibilities: "I took minutes at the boar meeting." Subliminal thinking? If so, does not get said better than this... COVID times slogan: "We are stronger together".  There must be a typo, because the word is "stranger". "Anti-black racism".  I don't even want to think what should happen if someone re-positioned the dash. "XYZ wants to defund ABC. Seduced by visuals or Why a picture is not always worth a thousand words

 I have attended dozens upon dozens of professional presentations, IT related or not, and after a while I started noticing how concepts, processes or outcomes are always neatly packed in some good looking graph, diagram or table. Those graphs, diagrams or tables are partitioned in eye pleasing proportions and the illustrated concepts, processes or outcomes are firmly encased in them. Most of the time, there are three or four partitions, equal in size, because this is what the page would hold or it is easier to draw.  The world is chaotic and hard to describe or illustrate. Sure a model of any kind needs to simplify things in order to communicate them. But I can't help wondering, isn't the author succumbing to the temptation of making order in the universe by collapsing stuff into those visuals, as opposed to writing a competent and complete text?
